INDONESIA – 22 May 2025 – PT PLN (Persero) is reinforcing its commitment to accelerating the energy transition through strategic collaborations with green technology-based (greentech) startups in Indonesia. This commitment was underscored by the PLN Startup Day 2025 event, themed “Powering Partnership: Uniting Forces for Sustainable Energy,” held at the PLN Head Office in Jakarta on Wednesday (21/5).
Wayan Toni Supriyanto, Director General of Digital Infrastructure at the Ministry of Communication and Digital, commended PLN’s initiative for its alignment with the government’s vision to cultivate an inclusive and sustainable digital ecosystem.
“PLN plays a strategic role in realizing this vision, particularly in integrating digital innovation into energy solutions. Programs like PLN Connext and events such as PLN Startup Day clearly demonstrate that collaboration between the government, SOEs, and the innovation sector can effectively address challenges in the energy sector,” said Wayan.
PLN’s President Director, Darmawan Prasodjo, emphasized that PLN Startup Day 2025 is not merely an annual event but a key strategic platform for forging future solutions through tangible collaboration with innovators.
“Indonesia requires innovation to actualize the energy transition and achieve Net Zero Emissions by 2060. Here, startups, especially greentech startups, play a pivotal role by developing technological innovations to tackle diverse challenges within the energy sector,” Darmawan affirmed.
Culminating in this year’s event, PLN has successfully engaged 63 startups in the energy sector. Of these, 20 have participated in incubation programs, 20 have entered into Memorandums of Understanding (MoU) via the PLN Connext program, and 16 have forged concrete partnerships with PLN on various strategic programs.
Hartanto Wibowo, PLN’s Director of Corporate Planning and Business Development, explained that PLN cultivates its startup ecosystem via two primary avenues. Firstly, by collaborating with later-stage startups, focusing on innovative solutions ripe for direct integration into the national energy system. Secondly, through an incubation program for early-stage startups, offering mentorship, training, and support for business exploration to foster long-term growth and impact.
“Since 2023, through PLN Connext, we have established a tangible and structured energy startup ecosystem. We believe startups are catalysts for change, owing to their inherent agility, creativity, and high capacity for innovation,” Hartanto stated.
Further strengthening its synergy with the government, PLN formalized two strategic partnerships during the event. The first, with the Ministry of Communication and Digital, aims to foster the digital ecosystem’s development by leveraging startup products and services. The second, with the Ministry of Higher Education, Science, and Technology, is geared towards enhancing research and development collaboration in the electricity sector.
Additionally, PLN Group entered into strategic collaborations with several selected startups. These partnerships target technological advancements in areas such as the Internet of Things (IoT), artificial intelligence (AI), carbon capture technology, and electric vehicle solutions.
Notable examples include PLN Icon Plus partnering with startups Magnar and Soca.AI on IoT and AI solutions; PLN Enjiniring collaborating with TechnoGIS to apply AI in the engineering sector; and a synergy between PLN Nusadaya and Algatek focused on carbon capture technology. PLN Electricity Services has partnered with Starvo for the operation and maintenance of Public Electric Vehicle Charging Stations (SPKLU), while PLN Haleyora Powerindo has also forged a partnership with Charged to develop electric vehicle fleets.
“Through these collaborations, we anticipate the emergence of Indonesian energy startups capable of achieving global stature, potentially becoming ‘unicorns’ with valuations exceeding USD 1 billion, and ranking alongside world-class energy enterprises,” Hartanto concluded.
