5 more great JRPGs for iOS and Android

So yesterday we gave you the the five best JRPGs for iOS and Android, and today we thought we would be super kind and give you another five. So without further procrastination, here you go. Oh, and you’re welcome!

1: Lunar Silver Star Story Touch- Somoga Inc.-$6.99

If you like anime, then you are going to love this re-release of the Genesis Classic. Lunar Silver Star Story Touch (trying saying that three times quickly) is an awkwardly-named delight. Lunar fuses the charm of fantasy-based anime with JRPG adventure. You take on the role of Alex, a young man who is determined to follow in the footsteps of his hero, the Dragon Master Dyne. Lunar looks its age, but that doesn’t mean it isn’t beautiful and the regular use of anime cutscenes makes it even more loveable.

Unfortunately Lunar’s control system leaves a lot to be desired. You can tap to move, but your characters constantly get stuck on various outcroppings. You can use an onscreen joystick, but it’s not very accurate and you’ll find yourself missing the turnings, especially entrances to buildings. Or you can go into portrait mode and be given a working controller on the bottom have of the screen, which makes the game tiny on an iPhone, or uncomfortable on an iPad.

With a little practice you’ll get there, and thankfully Lunar isn’t going to put you in situations where reaction speed is important.

2.Shin Megami Tensei- Atlus- $7.99 for iOS and $11.83 for Android (Android version is Japanese only)

Shin Megami Tensei (SMT) is an antiquity now, and boy does it look it. Like I mentioned in my full review, this 1992 classic could have done with a graphics overhaul and a control update. but whilst it won’t be winning any beauty pageants, it’s still a top-notch game.

SMT takes place in Tokyo, at some point in the 1990s. The protagonist is a traditional silent protagonist, and its up to you and your more vocal party members to save the world from demon invasion. You do this by convincing demons to fight with you instead of against you. It’s the classic fire versus fire mechanic.

If you’re a lover of Pokemon then this should interest you. There’s loads of demons to catch and a whole world to explore to find more. Like all Shin Megami Tensei games, it’s pretty dark, so expect lots of emotion, murder, and teenage-angst as you prepare to save the world from a demon apocalypse.
