For many who don’t hold powerful passports, securing a travel visa often comes with cumbersome paperwork, prolonged waiting periods, and substantial costs, thus posing a significant barrier to international travel.
One startup is bidding to solve this problem. Launched in 2021, Atlys allows users to apply for visas from anywhere in the world through its platform. Aside from unifying the process in one place, the platform helps predict visa processing time while reducing rejection rates.
The US-based company recently raised US$12 million in its series A round led by Peak XV Partners and Elevation Capital. Other participants include Andreessen Horowitz (a16z), The Chainsmokers’ Mantis VC, South Park Commons, and Pinterest co-founders Ben Silbermann and Evan Sharp.
The fresh funds will be used for expanding the platform’s product offerings, customer acquisition, and ramping up hiring in the company.
Atlys said that 99.2% of visas applied using the platform were processed on time. In addition to offering visa services, Atlys plans to address various other pain points in overseas travel, such as remittance as well as travel insurance and loans.
In 2021, the company raised US$4.25 million in its seed round led by Andreessen Horowitz. Long Journey Ventures and South Park Commons Fund also took part in the round.
