Green Li-ion developed modular recycling tech for lithium-ion batteries. It also says it has a more profitable and sustainable process compared to usual battery recycling methods while removing the need for green-mining operations.

The company was founded by Leon Farrant and Reza Katal in 2020. Its latest raise will fund modular processing plant construction and operation, research and development, and market expansion in Europe.

Green Li-ion said that demand for battery metals has recently hit historic highs, as global power demand increases. “We believe that our tech will help ensure that batteries can be brought to the market with minimal waste, and safely recycled in an environmentally sustainable manner,” said Farrant.

Other investors in the round include:

  • Renewable energy producer EDP (EDP Ventures)
  • TRIREC
  • MB Energy Partners
  • Ilshin Holdings
  • Envisioning Partners
  • GS Holdings
