Sequoia’s Surge leads $1.6m round of Singapore media SaaS startup

Gumlet, a media software-as-a-service (SaaS) startup based in Singapore, announced a US$1.6 million investment from Surge, Sequoia Capital India’s accelerator program. Angel investors also joined this round.

“The funds will enable us to further our product development and make video optimization and analytics more accessible, sooner, for all developers,” Gumlet co-founder and CMO Divyesh Patel told Tech in Asia. They will also spend on growth and building open source tools

Gumlet, which specializes in media publishing automation, is one of 23 startups accepted in Surge’s recent fifth cohort. Founded in 2019, the company currently serves 6,000 online publishers from travel sites to news portals.

The startup’s plugins need little to no coding, allowing publishers to optimize media for any type of platform without losing quality. It also provides analytics for media files.

“More than just delivering a SaaS tool for online publishers and businesses, our mission is to build a media delivery infrastructure for the
internet,” said Gumlet co-founder Aditya Patadia.

Updates (July 27, 2021 3:15 SGT): Added Gumlet’s plans for the fund.
