Online grocery apps make things super convenient

Hello readers,

Do you use online grocery apps?

I don’t.

I’m old school like that because when I was a kid, my grandma told me off for bringing back too-ripe bananas after a grocery run. After that, I made sure that the fruits I bought at the store were nice enough for my elders’ liking.

How could you even tell this sort of thing when you’re shopping online?

Despite my aversion to such services, the industry’s doing pretty good, particularly in Southeast Asia. And over in China, grocery startup Nice Tuan topped this week’s funding charts with its US$75 million capital injection.

I may be a grocery traditionalist, but I must admit that the convenience of shopping online is tempting. The time I spend queueing at the cash register could be better spent doing quite literally anything else (I hate queues so much).

But the bananas, though…

A smart refrigerator isn't one with screens, cameras, and wifi. It's one that knows to dim the light when you open it at 3 am.
