Investing in sports technology companies is not new for renowned athletes. Think LeBron James and Naomi Osaka with StatusPro or Michael Jordan with Sportradar.
Greysia Polii, a retired Indonesian badminton athlete who secured a historic gold medal in women’s doubles at the Tokyo 2020 Olympics, has followed in these footsteps.
She has joined the seed round of Ayo Indonesia, a Jakarta-based sport tech company that enables users to book sports venues and find opponents or teammates via its online platform.

Founded in 2016 by Samuel Hadeli Lie, Raimundus Johannes, and Agustian Hermanto, Ayo Indonesia also provides software-as-a-service solutions to sports venues in a B2B subscription model. This includes functions like scheduling, online bookings, membership and multicourt management, as well as revenue reports.
Lie, who also serves as the firm’s CEO, told Tech in Asia that the fresh funds will enable the startup’s sales team to acquire venue partners faster.
Ayo Indonesia is currently not profitable, Lie said. However, he emphasized that the company has a clear path to profitability. Without providing exact figures, the CEO said the firm’s revenue is increasing every month, and it has had flat monthly costs over the past year.
According to the company, Ayo has 70,000 users and 100 sports venues in 21 cities across Indonesia to date.
