🧠 Food for thought
Implications, context, and why it matters.
December registration bump needs context for Ola Electric
- December registrations reached 9,020 with a 9.3% share. That number lacks context without brand-wise VAHAN (India’s national vehicle registration database) data for TVS, Bajaj, and Ather in the same window.
- The company says 77% of December repairs finished the same day, which responds to complaints about delays. Keeping that pace across its larger Hyperservice service-center network is unproven.
- In states like Tamil Nadu and Uttar Pradesh, Ola moved back into the top three. India added 48.4 MWh of energy storage in H1 2025, down 74% from 186 MWh in H1 2024, which signals headwinds for grid-scale batteries 1.
Ola Shakti deliveries align with India’s battery energy storage tender wave
- India has 528 active Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) tenders for 2026 2. Projects run from 1 MW to 1,500 MWh across states like Gujarat (335 MW/670 MWh) 1 and Telangana (375 MW/1,500 MWh) 3. Ola Shakti’s delivery window lines up with these bids.
- Recent bids such as Gujarat Urja Vikas Nigam Limited (GUVNL) Phase VIII require at least 20% local content of total project cost, including energy management system software 1. That benefits domestic makers like Ola Electric, which is already shipping 4680 Bharat Cell-powered products.
- engineering, procurement, construction (EPC) firms; inverter vendors; energy management software providers can partner with Ola Electric to meet local content rules while tapping viability gap funding (VGF). Examples include ₹1.8 million per MWh under GUVNL’s Phase VIII tender 1 and VGF backed tenders flagged by industry bodies 3.
