Obsessed with customer support and bras? You need to attend TIA Bangalore 2016
1.2 billion people in India. But only one can scale a startup AND pick the perfect bra. No wonder Richa Kar’s online lingerie retailer Zivame sells 1 bra per minute…and raised US$40 million in its latest round.
Joining her as a speaker at Tech in Asia Bangalore 2016 is Girish Mathrubootham – the only person who loves your customers more than you. Count Google Capital, Yuri Milner, and clients in 145 countries among the satisfied customers for Freshdesk’s suite of customer support services. His success proves once again that increased, reliable revenue is delightful in any language.
Welcome to Tech in Asia Bangalore 2016 – the countdown to July 6 & 7 starts now.
Lingerie + Ecommerce + Perfect Fit = Winner

Startup darling Zivame has changed the way women bought bras and is now India’s largest online lingerie retailer. It currently offers over 5,000 lingerie styles, 50 brands, and 100 sizes. While working on an assignment to study the global lingerie market in her previous job, founder Richa Kar realised how under-served the market was, and how every single step of lingerie shopping was a bottleneck for women. This got her thinking about lingerie as a category in India.
Zivame is more than just an ecommerce platform. The startup is also playing an important role in educating women on how to find the best fit through various offerings, such as its recent launch of Zivame Fitting Lounges. Going the extra mile to ensure that their customers are comfortable and happy, Zivame adopts a “no-questions-asked money back” policy on all purchases, and came up with discreet packaging to save their customers from potential embarrassment. Richa and her team are also focusing on their private labels, as well as launching categories and styles that Indian women have never had access to so far.
Investors are buying into this trend, and have recently pumped US$40 million into Zivame, propelling the startup into the ninth spot in the list of top-funded e-commerce startups in India. Richa has also been dubbed as one of nine inspiring women who are changing the face of tech startups in India.
With revenues projected to cross US$15 million by March, and with about 200,000 items being shipped per month, Zivame isn’t hitting the brakes anytime soon in capturing India’s US$3 billion lingerie market.
That moment when a Hacker News commenter slaps you in the face and you make an elite Indian startup

Not literally, of course. But that was the “Eureka!” moment for Girish to give up his comfortable salary and strike it out in the customer support market. Quoting him from his company blogpost on the Freshdesk story, “Here was an opportunity sitting right in front of me. I had the domain knowledge and I knew that a massive transition to cloud is happening. The spidey sense in me told me that I should throw in my hat into the ring. That was the exact moment that I decided that I should build something in the customer support market delivered as SaaS.”
With humble beginnings of a two-member team working out from a 200 sq.ft office, Freshdesk hasn’t once rested on its laurels when it came to building a product that their customers want. The cloud-based customer support platform has delighted over 50,000 customers since 2010, including big names like Honda, 3M, Cisco, Unicef, Bridgestone, and more. It enables its clients to provide multichannel support to its customers via phone, email, chat, website, social networks, and mobile apps. Incorporated in the US but headquartered in India, Freshdesk has a global presence. It currently has offices in the UK and Australia (where it reported doubling its customer base) with its sights set for further growth in the near future.
Their laser-focus on customer satisfaction has made them the pride of India and one of the ecosystem’s best global success stories. The customer support startup has not only raised US$94 million, it completed four acquisitions till date: 1click in August 2015, Frilp in October 2015, Konotor in December 2015, and more recently, Framebench last month. It is also the first Indian startup to get backing from Google Capital.
