YGG co-founder’s gaming blockchain firm nets $20m

Oasys, a gaming blockchain firm based in Japan and Singapore, has secured US$20 million in a private token sale that was led by Republic Capital and saw participation from Crypto.com and Huobi, TechCrunch reported.

This type of financing minimizes the dilution of equity and attracts more investors than traditional private equity would, according to Oasys director Daiki Moriyama.

Blockchain companies are often hampered by time-consuming transactions and costly gas prices. As such, Oasys aims to create a gaming crypto platform that can facilitate speedy transactions at little to zero costs, which would make its services more scalable.

The firm was established in 2022 by Yield Guild Games co-founder Gabby Dizon, Bandai Namco Research CEO Hajime Nakatani, Thirdverse co-founder Hironao Kunimitsu, Double Jump Tokyo founder Hironobu Ueno, and Sega co-COO Shuji Utsumi.

The fresh funds will be used for marketing and business development. Oasys is also looking to expand its team and reinforce strategic partnerships with firms in the gaming and crypto industries.

Oasys is in the process of listing its token on a number of crypto exchanges.

Other investors in this round include:

  • Jump Crypto
  • Kucoin
  • Gate.io
  • Bitbank
  • Mirana Ventures
