Austin-based jobs website Indeed.com has announced today that it is to be acquired by Japan’s largest HR and classified media group, Recruit co.Ltd.
Indeed has been around since 2004, and is available in 50 countries and 26 languages, with a headcount of about 500 employees in multiple cities. According to the announcement, it can now extend its presence in the Asia region as well, in addition to its operations in the Americas and Europe.
This is a match that makes a lot of sense, although I confess I’m a little surprised to see Recruit extend its reach so far. And this is likely a costly pickup for the company. But Recruit’s CEO noted that the company hopes to be a global leader in HR and recruitment, and that this move is “a critical step in achieving that goal.” He added, “we are excited to help build on Indeed’s number one position in job search.”
The terms of the deal were not disclosed, but Reuters cites Indeed co-founder Paul Forster as saying that investors will see “very healthy” returns.
