Nintendo is cutting DS and Wii online services. Goodbye, Pokemon of yesteryear.

Nintendo announced last night that it will be dropping its online services for both the Wii and DS starting May 20, 2014. This cut in services does not affect the online shops but rather the online play, matchmaking, and leaderboards that players have been using for the past decade.

While there are a number of good games out for the 3DS, the DS was home to a lot of stars, including—and this is pretty depressing—a lot of Pokemon games. According to Serebii.net, the following games will be affected:

• Pokemon Platinum
• Pokemon HeartGold
• Pokemon SoulSilver
• Pokemon Battle Revolution
• Pokemon Black

• Pokemon Mystery Dungeon: Explorers of Time
• Pokemon Mystery Dungeon: Explorers of the Darkness
• Pokemon Mystery Dungeon: Explorers of the Sky

You’d best get that GTS trading done while you still can, before you’re cut off from the world completely.

On top of these services that will be cut worldwide, Nintendo Japan has also just announced that the 3DS will no longer support the Nintendo Video app. The app has been a free service that allowed users to view 3D videos, but starting March 30, 2014 Nintendo Japan will cease to support the app. The decision could have something to do with this though.
