Nexon and Ongamenet invite 8 foreign teams to Korea for Dota 2 Invitational Super Match, 4 teams confirmed

Things are looking lively for Dota 2 in Korea. Just a week after the Nexon Sponsorship League kicked off, Nexon is giving fans another treat. Today, Nexon and OnGameNet (OGN) announced the invitation of eight foreign teams to the DOTA 2 Invitational Super Match in Korea. OGN is known to have participated in broadcasting events for League of Legends (LoL). The Dota 2 Invitational Super Match will be the first time they step into the Dota 2 scene.

According to the announcement, four of the eight teams have confirmed their attendance — DK from China, Fnatic from Europe, Dignitas from the US, and Virtus Pro (VP) from Russia. However, DK’s team manager Farseer posted on Weibo and denied their attendance. These eight teams will be competing with four Korean teams from the Nexon Sponsorship League. Starting on October 28, the matches will be held from Monday to Thursday every week for a month. The overall program will be aired by OnGameNet for three months from October to December.

The four other teams have yet to confirm their attendance, and DK just denied theirs. Even with the remaining three confirmed teams, Korean Dota 2 teams will benefit from facing them. Since teams from different parts of the globe have their own playing style, Korean Dota teams will have a better grasp of competitive play and will be able to devise styles and strategies of their own as they progress. If properly and continuously implemented, this method could be better than just pitting local Korean teams against each other before facing international teams. The attendance of known foreign teams will also help turn people’s eyes towards Korea, which will then be helpful in securing sponsors for the betterment of the organizers and the industry.

Although DK said they won’t be attending, it would still be interesting to keep an eye on who else will be going to Korea.
