Zuckerberg’s wealth drops after Meta stock plunge
Mark Zuckerberg dropped to fifth on the Bloomberg Billionaires Index after Meta’s shares fell 11%, the biggest single-day decline since 2022.
Meta announced plans to raise US$30 billion through a bond sale to fund AI research, and its stock price slid following the news, cutting Zuckerberg’s net worth to US$235.2 billion.
Amazon’s Jeff Bezos and Alphabet’s Larry Page both surpassed Zuckerberg on the list, a shift not seen since October 2023.
Alphabet’s shares rose 2.5% after it reported higher-than-expected revenue, driven by demand for cloud and AI services.
Zuckerberg’s wealth fell by US$29.2 billion in one day, marking the fourth-largest single-day drop tracked by Bloomberg’s index.
Meta’s stock had climbed 28% earlier this year, but concerns about rising AI spending led at least two analysts to downgrade the stock.

🧠 Food for thought
Implications, context, and why it matters.
Meta’s $30 billion data center plan uses a Special Purpose Vehicle (SPV) to keep debt off its balance sheet
- An SPV will fund the Louisiana Hyperion data center 1. Blue Owl Capital owns 80%, Meta 20%, which leaves over $27 billion of debt off Meta’s balance sheet 1.
- The bonds carry an A+ rating from Standard & Poor’s (S&P), mature in 2049, and price at about 225 basis points (2.25 percentage points) over U.S. Treasuries 1.
- This differs from Meta’s $25 billion general corporate bond sale, which sits on the balance sheet 12. The SPV model gives hyperscalers (the largest cloud and data center operators) a way to fund AI buildouts without denting credit ratings 12.
Suppliers eyeing Meta’s five-gigawatt Hyperion build can track power RFPs and timelines
- The Hyperion campus in Louisiana could draw up to five gigawatts at full load 1. Entergy (the regional electric utility) plans to supply up to three gigawatts by December 2028, pending a substation, transmission lines, and new plants 1.
- Meta’s 2025 value chain (supply chain) emissions reduction Request for Proposals (RFP) targets specific sectors 3. Detailed requirements sit behind a Non-Disclosure Agreement (NDA), which gives infrastructure vendors a direct path to match bids with its sustainability goals 3.
- Local businesses in Louisiana get info sessions and vendor opportunities for the $10 billion Richland Parish project (a county-level jurisdiction), with construction peaking at 5,000 workers onsite 4.
- Meta advanced a shortlist toward its 1–4 gigawatt nuclear capacity target for data center power 5. It received over 50 qualified submissions from more than 20 states, which signals more procurement waves beyond Louisiana as it scales AI infrastructure 5.
