ZTE-backed Nubia taps CXMT for mobile memory

China’s ChangXin Memory Technologies (CXMT), a memory chipmaker, is supplying LPDDR5X dynamic random-access memory (DRAM) chips for ZTE-backed smartphone brand Nubia’s NaviX Ultra.

The move adds a domestic component to a premium handset as memory markets tighten.

Nubia’s phone went on sale on September 16 with ByteDance’s Doubao AI assistant.

ZTE’s website lists a starting price of 5,999 yuan, or about US$885.

LPDDR5X is a low-power mobile DRAM standard that offers higher data rates and lower power use than earlier generations, making it suitable for high-end and AI-focused smartphones.

The launch comes as International Data Corporation (IDC) says global DRAM supply is tightening.

CXMT and Nubia said the tie-up marks the first large-scale use of domestically made LPDDR5X chips in this class of device, though claims that it signals wider industry adoption remain preliminary.
