Zoom posts $1.2b in Q3 revenue, expands AI product lineup

Zoom reported Q3 revenue of US$1.2 billion, up 4.4% year-on-year and above analyst expectations.

The San Jose-based software firm, known for its videoconferencing platform, also posted adjusted earnings of US$1.52 per share, higher than the US$1.44 average estimate.

Enterprise revenue rose 6.1% to US$741.4 million, with 4,363 customers spending over US$100,000 each in the past year.

Average monthly churn among smaller customers dropped to 2.7% from 2.9% in the previous quarter.

Zoom has been expanding its product offerings, introducing an updated AI assistant and new customer experience tools.

The company expects Q4 revenue to remain at about US$1.2 billion, in line with forecasts.

🧠 Food for thought

Implications, context, and why it matters.

Revenue beat lacks forward markers

  • Zoom posted 4.4% revenue growth with an earnings beat, but the News Article omits billings (invoiced sales) and remaining performance obligations (RPO means contracted backlog).
  • Enterprise revenue grew 6.1%. ZoomInfo is a go-to-market software provider and posted 6% upmarket annual contract value (ACV, a different metric) 1. That leaves less visibility on large-customer gains.
  • Average monthly churn among smaller customers fell to 2.7% from 2.9%. Q4 revenue guidance sits near US$1.2 billion and looks flat. ZoomInfo reported 90% net revenue retention (revenue from the same customer base after churn and upsells), with upmarket customers over 100% in-period 1. The News Article skips Zoom Phone seat growth (cloud calling users), Contact Center adoption rates (usage of Zoom’s customer support software), and enterprise net dollar retention (revenue expansion from existing customers net of churn).

API and developer takeaways from Zoom’s AI and CX push

  • Zoom offers APIs and software development kits (SDKs). Many AI Companion (Zoom’s AI assistant) features sit behind product endpoints, for example meetings and recordings, while the AI Companion panel stays closed to API access except for archiving 2.
  • System integrators as well as independent software vendors can add governance layers or workflow automation. They can use meeting summaries, transcripts, and AI content in Zoom Docs (Zoom’s collaborative document tool) for CRM or helpdesk integrations 3.
  • An October Oracle partnership includes a 15,000-seat contact center on Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (Oracle’s public cloud) 4. That marks enterprise-scale use of Zoom CX and could drive partner work.
