Zomato shares fall over 3% after Sensex debut
Zomato has become the first new-age tech company included in the BSE (formerly Bombay Stock Exchange) Sensex, a free-float market-weighted stock market index, effective Monday.
However, Zomato’s share price fell during early trading hours, decreasing by 3.08% to 273.15 rupees (US$3.28).
This decline lowered the company’s market capitalization to US$31.54 billion, down from US$32 billion the previous week.
The foodtech firm replaced JSW Steel in the benchmark index, joining companies like ITC, Reliance Industries, and HDFC Bank.
