Arattai, a messaging app backed by Zoho, has surpassed 7.5 million downloads across Google Play and Apple’s App Store as of October 3.

The India-based platform has seen rapid growth after public endorsements from Indian ministers and increased social media attention.

Zoho founder Sridhar Vembu said in a recent social media post that Arattai relies on engineering frameworks developed over 15 years at Zoho.

Industry analysts say the app’s rise reflects a long-term trend toward local technology solutions as India focuses on digital self-reliance and security.

Analysts also noted that the success of indigenous apps depends on competitive pricing and support for local businesses.
