Zerodha’s investment arm backs India’s Capitalmind series A

Rainmatter, the investment arm of Zerodha Broking, has made a series A investment in Capitalmind Financial Services, a Bengaluru-based investment management firm.

This marks Capitalmind’s first institutional funding round and follows the recent launch of its mutual fund business.

The Capitalmind Flexi Cap Fund, the firm’s first mutual fund scheme, reopened for subscriptions on August 6, 2025 after raising 45 crore rupees (US$5.4 million) in its new fund offer.

Rainmatter’s stake is capped at 10% in line with SEBI regulations, and it will not have a board seat.

Nearly half of the direct inflows to the mutual fund came via Zerodha’s Coin platform.

🧠 Food for thought

1️⃣ New mutual fund entrants face massive opportunity in India’s exploding asset management market

Capitalmind’s entry into mutual funds comes at an opportune time, with India’s mutual fund industry experiencing unprecedented growth.

The industry’s assets under management surged from ₹11.73 trillion in June 2015 to ₹74.79 trillion by June 2025—a more than six-fold increase over just ten years1.

This growth trajectory is expected to continue, with projections showing the industry could reach ₹200 lakh crore over the next seven years as mentioned in the article.

The scale of this opportunity becomes clearer when considering that even capturing 0.5% market share of this projected future size would translate to ₹1 lakh crore in assets under management—a target that seemed impossible just a decade ago.

This growth is primarily driven by retail investors through systematic investment plans (SIPs), with the industry expected to see inflows of $40-45 billion in FY262.

2️⃣ Retail investor behavior shifts create sustainable growth for asset managers

The mutual fund industry’s resilience stems from a fundamental change in how retail investors approach markets, moving away from lump-sum investments to disciplined SIP-based investing.

Monthly SIP inflows are expected to remain around $3 billion, providing steady growth even during market corrections2.
