Zerodha co-founder: Indian online broker launches with $11,400

Zerodha co-founder Nithin Kamath said the Indian online stockbroking platform was launched with an initial investment of 10 lakh rupee (US$11,400).

Kamath shared on X that costs included 2.5 lakh rupee (US$2,850) for the website, 5 lakh rupee (US$5,700) for office interiors, and 2.5 lakh rupee (US$3,012) for other expenses.

He said early access to the free NSE Now trading platform and a low-cost back-end arrangement kept expenses minimal.

Zerodha has not raised venture capital or pursued a public listing.

Kamath said the company has no plans for an IPO, saying in a June interview that listing would be difficult for Zerodha.

In FY24, Zerodha reported 8,370 crore rupee (US$1.01 billion) in revenue and about 4,700 crore rupee (US$566 million) in profits, according to Kamath.

Zerodha Capital, its non-banking finance arm, recorded a net profit of 12.5 crore rupee (US$1.51 million) and revenues of 36 crore rupee (US$4.34 million) in FY25, up from 7.2 crore rupee (US$867.000) and 17 crore rupee (US$2.05 million), respectively, the previous year.
