YZi Labs leads $50m round in Better Payment Network for stablecoins

YZi Labs has led a US$50 million funding round in Better Payment Network, a programmable payment platform focused on multi-stablecoin transactions.

The funding will be used to create on-chain liquidity pools and develop a market-making ecosystem for stablecoin-to-stablecoin transactions.

Better Payment Network, which is built on BNB Chain, develops infrastructure for cross-border payment settlements using fiat-backed stablecoins.

Better Payment Network’s system supports both regulated, KYC-compliant transfers for enterprises and payment institutions, as well as a DeFi model for permissionless on-chain stablecoin swaps.

The company has enabled real-time stablecoin conversions across regions including Latin America, Africa, and Europe, and plans to support up to 20 regional stablecoins across Latin America, Africa, and Asia by the end of the year.

The investment aligns with YZi Labs’ interest in blockchain-based financial infrastructure.

🧠 Food for thought

Implications, context, and why it matters.

  • BPN says it runs regulated KYC (Know Your Customer)/KYB (Know Your Business) fiat gateways (bank-linked on/off-ramps that convert between government-issued currency and stablecoins). It lists Brazil, Nigeria, Mexico and the EU but gives no proof of money transmitter licenses or registrations.
  • In the US, firms without bank partners need money transmitter licenses in many states, with applications plus surety bonds from $50,000 to several million dollars and background checks/AML (Anti-Money Laundering) programs that can take several months or longer 1.
  • BPN pitches 3 to 4 hour cross-border settlements at 30 basis points (0.30%) but names no banks, payment partners or regulators to support fiat on/off ramps in each corridor.
  • Missing VASP (Virtual Asset Service Provider) registrations, EMI (Electronic Money Institution) licenses or MSB (Money Services Business) certifications leave the legal footing unclear and could slow the roadmap.
  • Its dual CeFi (centralized finance)/DeFi (decentralized finance) rails can cut cross-border costs from 2% to 30 basis points and shrink settlement from 1 to 2 days to hours for wallets/payment service providers plus neobanks/remittance platforms.
  • Docs matter, as seen with Stripe 2 and Checkout.com 3. A BPN developer portal should surface API endpoints, SDK (Software Development Kit) support, languages, plus setup needs for stablecoin minting/swapping.
  • Teams need a list of live corridors versus planned routes. The announcement says BBRL, cNGN, MEXAS and EURI already support real-time conversions, which helps plan timelines and liquidity checks before a BNB Chain payment build.
