YouTube eases livestream ads in busy chats
YouTube will hold back ads during livestreams when chat activity is high and give viewers a personal ad-free window after they buy Super Chat, Super Stickers, or gifts, the Google-owned platform said.
Super Chat lets viewers pay to highlight messages, while Super Stickers are paid images for live chat. YouTube Premium remains its subscription option to avoid ads.
YouTube also expanded viewer gifts to Canada, Korea, Indonesia, Thailand, Australia, and New Zealand. Added GIFs for horizontal livestreams on mobile, and now lets creators stream in vertical and horizontal formats at the same time with one shared chat.
The updates come after YouTube raised YouTube Premium prices in the US to US$15.99 a month for individual plans from US$13.99 and to US$26.99 for family plans from US$22.99.
