Y Combinator joins $6.5m series A in US accounting startup Double
Double, a US-based accounting software startup, has raised US$6.5 million in a series A round led by Album Ventures, with participation from Jack Altman and Y Combinator.
The new capital will be used to accelerate product development, expand engineering and customer success teams, and grow partnerships.
The company, formerly known as Keeper, provides a platform for accounting and bookkeeping firms to manage month-end close processes and client collaboration.
Double has now raised a total of over US$12.5 million since its founding in 2020.
The firm said its platform is used by more than 4,000 firms across North America.
Double rebranded from Keeper in October 2025 to reflect its mission to double the capacity, accuracy, and impact of accountants, rooted in double-entry bookkeeping principles.

🧠 Food for thought
Implications, context, and why it matters.
The article cites usage by more than 4,000 firms but gives no traction metrics
- Double, an accounting software startup, raised $6.5 million at Series A without sharing Annual Recurring Revenue (ARR) or paid user counts. It also withheld pricing and average contract value. Growth and retention are unknown. Median burn multiple for Series A Software as a Service (SaaS) is about 1.6×, and it equals cash burned divided by net new ARR 1.
- Series A investors want $1.5 million to $3 million ARR, 2 to 3x year-over-year growth, and net revenue retention (NRR) above 110% 23. Without these, readers cannot tell if the 4,000 firms pay or use free plans.
- In 2025, founders count pilots, one-time deals, or unactivated contracts as recurring revenue, which makes some ARR claims unreliable 4. With no revenue metrics from Double, readers cannot separate real traction from padded ARR.
External ISVs and fintechs can explore early integrations
- Double plans to expand partnerships. Independent software vendors (ISVs), fintech platforms, or consulting firms could pitch integrations if a partner program or Application Programming Interface (API) is in place.
- FreshBooks is small-business accounting software. BILL handles accounts payable and spend management. Digits is an accounting automation startup. Each runs an accountant partner program with certification and co-marketing. BILL also pays referrals for client sign-ups 567.
- Partners can target gaps Double may not cover, such as payroll, tax compliance, or advanced analytics. Vendors could co-sell into the more than 4,000 firms if those are active paid users, not trials.
