Y Combinator-backed US AI startup Greptile eyes $180m valuation
AI-powered code review startup Greptile is in talks to raise US$30 million in a series A round, potentially valuing the company at US$180 million.
Benchmark partner Eric Vishria is expected to lead the investment.
One source noted the deal hasn’t been finalized and terms could still change.
Founded in 2023 by Georgia Tech graduate Daksh Gupta, Greptile joined Y Combinator’s winter 2024 cohort and later raised US$4 million in a seed round led by Initialized Capital.

🧠 Food for thought
1️⃣ AI code review tools are attracting significant venture capital despite competition
The Greptile funding round demonstrates strong investor interest in AI-powered developer tooling, particularly in the code review space.
The reported $30 million Series A at a $180 million valuation represents a substantial step up from their $4 million seed round completed after Y Combinator.
This pattern of rapid valuation growth is similar to what we’ve seen with competitor Graphite, which secured a $52 million Series B led by Accel.
The competitive landscape is increasingly crowded, with multiple well-funded players like Coderabbit ($16 million Series A from CRV) vying for market share.
Benchmark’s potential involvement signals continued strong institutional interest in developer tools that leverage AI to improve software engineering workflows.
2️⃣ The controversy around extreme work cultures in early-stage AI startups
Greptile’s founder openly advocates for an intense work schedule (9am to 11pm including weekends), positioning it as necessary for competitive advantage.
His statement that “No one cares about the third-best company, or even the second-best company in any category in software” reflects a winner-take-all mindset common in competitive technology segments.
