Xpeng vehicle deliveries hit 271,615, sales jump threefold

Xpeng reported year-to-date deliveries of 271,615 vehicles as of August 2025, more than triple its sales from the same period in 2024, driven by strong demand for its budget MONA M03 EV.

The MONA M03, which starts at 119,800 yuan (US$16,800), now accounts for about 40% of Xpeng’s monthly sales.

Xpeng’s net loss narrowed, and its gross margin rose to 17.3% in Q2 2025.

Chairman and CEO He Xiaopeng said the company expects monthly deliveries to exceed 40,000 units from September onward.

Xpeng has also launched a revamped P7 sedan and expanded a partnership with Volkswagen to supply software services for the German automaker’s platforms in China.

🧠 Food for thought

1️⃣ Entry-level pricing with premium technology creates competitive advantage

XPeng’s dramatic sales growth demonstrates how combining affordable pricing with advanced features can disrupt established market dynamics.

The company’s MONA M03 model, starting at just 119,800 yuan ($16,800), now accounts for about 40% of XPeng’s monthly sales and helped triple their year-to-date deliveries to 271,615 units1.

This strategy challenges the traditional market segmentation where premium technology typically commands premium prices.

XPeng leverages its “highly regarded intelligent technologies” in a mass-market price range typically dominated by basic models from BYD and Geely1.

The approach has translated into financial improvements, with XPeng’s gross margins expanding to 17.3% in the second quarter, proving that premium features at accessible prices can be profitable1.

This positioning sits between premium players like NIO, whose vehicles range from 320,000 to 400,000 RMB, and traditional mass-market offerings that lack advanced AI capabilities2.

2️⃣ Government intervention in pricing wars creates opportunities for agile competitors

The Chinese government’s recent warnings about aggressive price-cutting have coincided with market share shifts away from dominant players toward more nimble competitors.
