🧠 Food for thought
Implications, context, and why it matters.
Xpeng’s timelines rest on factory progress
- The 2027 goal for flying car deliveries follows concrete work on the “Land Aircraft Carrier,” a modular vehicle that pairs a road car with a detachable aircraft. It has more than 7,000 orders, XPeng said 1.
- A Guangzhou plant started trial production in November 2025. Initial annual output is set at 5,000 units, rising to 10,000 units when the site reaches full capacity 1.
- XPeng has also said mass production of the Land Aircraft Carrier should begin in 2026 2.
- The robot plan also ties to manufacturing. Xpeng has set up a production base in Guangzhou for the IRON humanoid robot, a human-shaped robot built for industrial and other physical tasks 3.
Flying cars and robots sit at the center of Xpeng’s “Physical AI”
- XPeng is shifting toward “Physical AI” products across robots, robotaxis, and flying cars 1.
- Its Turing AI chip and VLA 2.0 large model are designed to work across humanoid robots and flying cars, XPeng said 1.
- That setup lets the company use its carmaking know-how in new machines while sharing research and development spending across several markets.
- Volkswagen is the launch customer for XPeng’s VLA 2.0 large model, XPeng said 1.
