Xpeng targets 2026 mass production of flying car
Xpeng, a Chinese electric vehicle maker, said on July 16 it aims to mass-produce its first flying car in 2026 after 13 years of work on the project.
The company said it has received more than 7,000 orders.
Its flying car project began in 2013. Xpeng outlined a dual-track roadmap for electric vertical takeoff and landing (eVTOL) aircraft and modular flying cars in 2023.
The nearer-term Land Aircraft Carrier is a modular vehicle that combines a six-wheel ground vehicle with a detachable eVTOL aircraft.
Xpeng AeroHT previously said it was targeting mass production and deliveries by 2026 at a price below 2 million yuan, or about US$281,040.
Xpeng said it now has two flying vehicle lines. The Land Aircraft Carrier is for personal low-altitude trips, and the A868 eVTOL is for longer-range, multi-passenger travel.
That 2026 target still depends on certification.
China’s civil aviation regulator accepted the Land Aircraft Carrier air module’s type-certificate application in March 2024 and its production-certificate application in May 2025.
