Xpeng commissions humanoid robot lines in China
Guangzhou-based electric vehicle maker and robotics developer Xpeng said on September 8 that it had commissioned humanoid robot production lines in China.
Its next-generation IRON robot then walked off the line after production, as Xpeng moved toward mass production.
Xpeng said more than 80% of core processes on the lines are automated, marking a shift from research and development prototyping to line manufacturing.
The company said its robots are set to enter mass production by the end of 2026.
Initial commercial rollouts will begin in Xpeng’s own stores and campuses before a planned market launch and deliveries in China and overseas in 2027.
Xpeng also said on August 24 that its robotics business had signed share purchase agreements with multiple investors, raising more than US$900 million at a post-money valuation of more than US$6.3 billion.
That timeline would put Xpeng behind some Chinese peers that have already begun mass production, while Shanghai-based Agibot has shipped 5,000 humanoid robots.
