Xiaomi hit record 29k EV sales in March

Chinese tech giant Xiaomi set a new monthly record by delivering over 29,000 electric cars in March, marking its sixth consecutive month with over 20,000 deliveries.

However, a fatal accident involving a Xiaomi SU7 in autopilot mode resulted in three deaths, with investigations ongoing.

Competitors Xpeng and Leapmotor posted strong March deliveries, with Xpeng delivering 33,205 units (a 268% YoY increase) and Leapmotor reaching 37,095 units (up 154%).

Both outperformed Nio and Zeekr, while BYD remained the market leader with 371,419 deliveries, a 57.9% increase.

Tesla saw a decline, reporting 78,828 units, down 11.5% YoY.

In Q1 2025, BYD led with 986,098 vehicles, followed by Tesla at 172,754. Xpeng and Leapmotor grew, delivering 94,008 and 87,552 units, respectively, while Nio and Li Auto lagged with 42,094 and 92,864.

China’s EV market continues to expand, with strong demand following a slow start to the year.
