Xiaomi’s YU7 tops China vehicle sales in January
Xiaomi’s YU7 electric SUV led China’s vehicle sales in January, with 37,869 units sold, according to the China Passenger Car Association.
The model sold twice as many units as Tesla’s Model Y, which ranked 20th with 16,845 units.
The Model Y, previously the top-selling vehicle in December, dropped sharply in ranking in January.
Xiaomi launched the YU7 in summer 2025, its second electric vehicle, priced about 10,000 yuan lower than the Model Y.
The company aims to challenge Tesla’s market share in China, where BYD remains the leading automaker.
Despite the YU7’s sales success, the overall electric vehicle market in China has recently slowed.
Xiaomi’s earlier SU7 sedan faced safety scrutiny after fatal accidents involving driver-assist features, prompting regulatory changes.
The company plans to expand its electric vehicle offerings overseas, including Europe next year.
