Xiaomi investigated after its EV fatal crash in China
Chinese tech giant Xiaomi is cooperating with police following a fatal accident involving its SU7 electric vehicle on Mar. 29 in China’s Anhui province.
The company said it has provided driving and system data to assist in the investigation.
According to Xiaomi, the vehicle was in Navigate on Autopilot mode and traveling at 116 kilometers per hour before the crash.
A driver reportedly took control in an attempt to slow the car, but the vehicle collided with a cement pole at a speed of 97 kph. The number of casualties has not been disclosed.
The SU7 involved in the accident is the standard version, which does not include the advanced LiDAR-equipped driving technology found in higher-end models. Instead, this version relies on a vision-based system for navigation and driving assistance.
Investigations into the incident are ongoing.
