Xiaomi to cut foreign reliance with self-made chip by 2025

Xiaomi Corporation plans to create its in-house mobile chip and self-designed mobile processor by 2025.

The Chinese tech giant seeks to cut its reliance on foreign chip suppliers like Qualcomm and MediaTek.

The government encourages reducing dependence on foreign technology due to ongoing geopolitical tensions.

Xiaomi will increase its R&D budget to 30 billion yuan (US$4.1 billion) by 2025.

This budget, up from 24 billion yuan (US$3.3 billion) this year, will focus on AI, operating systems, and chip technology, as stated by their chairman and CEO, Lei Jun.
