Xiaomi challenges Porsche with luxury EVs in China
Xiaomi has launched a customization service for its SU7 Ultra EV sedan in China, offering buyers the ability to add personalized trim and paint jobs for at least 100,000 yuan (US$13,700) on top of the car’s 529,900 yuan (US$74,000) price.
Xiaomi, a major Chinese smartphone maker that recently entered the EV market, is targeting wealthy consumers who might otherwise choose luxury European brands.
The customization service includes options such as 24-carat gold bonnet badges and colored forged wheel hubs, and is also available for the YU7 Max SUV.
Porsche, which has long dominated China’s premium car segment, has seen increased competition from local brands, and plans to expand its own personalization options in the country.
The German carmaker says over 90% of its 911 buyers choose at least one custom option, with some paint jobs costing over US$30,000.
