Xiaomi 17-series sales beat forecast but slow later: CEO
Xiaomi said initial sales of its new 17-series smartphones have outpaced expectations, according to CEO Lei Jun on Weibo.
The company launched the 17-series two weeks after Apple introduced its iPhone 17 models.
Xiaomi, which holds 15.7% of China’s smartphone market, is positioning the new line as a premium competitor to Apple and Huawei.
President Lu Weibing said over 1 million units were sold within a week and apologized for limited stock.
However, TF International Securities analyst Kuo Ming-chi forecasts total shipments will be over 20% lower than Xiaomi’s 10 million unit target, citing weaker demand for the basic model compared to the iPhone 17.
Huawei led China’s market in Q2 with an 18.1% share, followed by Xiaomi and Apple with 15.7% and 14.4%, respectively, according to Counterpoint Research.
