Elon Musk said on X on July 8 that xAI, his AI company, will release Grok 4.5 to the public on July 9 after a private beta at Tesla and SpaceX.

Musk said customer feedback drove the launch and described Grok 4.5 as an Opus-class model that is faster, more token-efficient, and lower-cost.

He did not specify what it outperforms. Grok 4.5 has not been submitted to public benchmarks, so those performance claims are based on internal testing.

Anthropic describes Claude Opus 4.8 as a model for complex coding and enterprise work, with regular application programming interface pricing of US$5 per million input tokens and US$25 per million output tokens.

XAI already offers Grok through a standalone application programming interface that does not require X Premium, although Musk did not say whether Grok 4.5 will appear there first, in consumer subscriptions, or in both.

Reports said Grok 4.5 runs on xAI’s 1.5-trillion-parameter V9 model and was trained on data from Cursor.

Cursor says customer content is not used for training when Privacy Mode is enabled, while some data may be used when that mode is off.
