Wix’s Base44 is launching Base Code, a standalone product that connects GitHub repositories to a collaborative cloud development environment, putting it in more direct competition with AI coding tools such as Claude Code and Cursor.

The product is designed to analyze an existing codebase and create a browser-based workspace where teams can edit code with natural language prompts, view changes live, submit updates through pull requests in existing review workflows, and provision databases and infrastructure.

It also includes features such as secret-key encryption and repository permission controls.

Base44 was acquired by Wix, though details of the acquisition were not disclosed. Base Code’s pricing and availability were also unclear.

The launch also puts Wix in a market where developers can already create GitHub-connected remote development environments through Codespaces, suggesting the market for browser-based, repository-integrated development environments is already established.
