WeChat removed from US’ 2024 counterfeit sellers list

Tencent’s app WeChat has been removed from the US Trade Representative’s (USTR) “notorious” counterfeit sellers list for 2024. This follows its inclusion in 2022 due to its role in the sale of counterfeit goods via third-party e-commerce links.

Tencent views this removal as recognition of their efforts to improve intellectual property protection

However, other Chinese platforms like Alibaba’s Taobao, PDD Holdings’ Pinduoduo, ByteDance-owned Douyin Mall, and Dhgate remain under scrutiny.

Despite WeChat’s removal, concerns about counterfeit products on e-commerce platforms persists, and several Chinese and international services continue to be monitored by the USTR.
