WeChat lets Chinese users book Uber rides internationally

Tencent Holdings has partnered with Uber Technologies to allow Chinese travelers to book Uber rides internationally through the WeChat app.

Users in mainland China can now hail rides in nine countries, including the US, UK, France, and Australia, via a mini-program within WeChat.

The service, previously available only in Hong Kong and Japan, supports payments through WeChat Pay or WeChat Pay HK, removing the need for cash or credit cards.

WeChat, with over 1.3 billion monthly active users, offers various services through mini-programs, reducing the need to download separate apps.

The partnership also gives Uber access to WeChat’s vast user base while helping Tencent expand WeChat’s global functionality.
