WeChat launched a new gift-giving feature on Jan. 17, allowing users to send gifts through a friend’s chat window or by searching for “gifts” in the app.

The feature is available for most WeChat Mini Program products, except jewelry and education items.

Products eligible for gifting must not exceed an original price of 10,000 yuan (around US$$1,365).

To use the feature, users select a product, confirm payment, and choose a recipient. The recipient must provide a shipping address and can exchange the gift for another of equal value before delivery.
