Waymo is testing Google’s Gemini AI as an in-car assistant in its robotaxis, according to research by Jane Manchun Wong.

Waymo, Alphabet’s self-driving tech company, has not publicly launched the feature, but code found in its app suggests the assistant could answer rider questions and control some in-cabin functions like climate and music.

The Gemini assistant is designed to provide information, manage select car settings, and offer reassurance to passengers, but it cannot make route changes or take real-world actions such as ordering food or handling emergencies.
