Waymo said to seek $100b valuation in $10b funding talks

Waymo reportedly in talks to raise new funding at a valuation of at least US$100 billion. The fundraising round could reportedly exceed US$10 billion and may be arranged early next year.

Waymo also said to seek over US$15 billion at a similar valuation, with Alphabet leading the round.

Waymo, an Alphabet unit operating a fleet of over 2,500 autonomous vehicles, is currently the only company in the US offering paid robotaxi rides with no safety drivers or in-vehicle attendants.

The push for new funding comes as competition heats up in the robotaxi market, with companies such as Tesla testing autonomous vehicles without front-seat safety monitors.

Alphabet’s market capitalization is about US$3.7 trillion, while Tesla is valued at US$1.5 trillion.
