Waymo expands autonomous vehicle freeway rides

Waymo has started offering autonomous vehicle rides on freeways in the San Francisco Bay Area, Phoenix, and Los Angeles.

The Alphabet-owned company is expanding the service to cover the entire San Francisco Peninsula, including new curbside pickup at San Jose Mineta International Airport.

Waymo plans to introduce freeway trips to additional cities such as Austin and Atlanta.

The company said the expansion follows extensive freeway testing with employees and guests, as well as collaboration with safety officials.

Waymo continues to gradually open freeway access to more public riders in its operating cities.
