Wavemaker Ventures leads $4m for data startup DataMasque
Wavemaker Ventures, the early-stage fund of Wavemaker Partners, said it led a US$4 million funding round in DataMasque.
Existing investors OIF Ventures and Icehouse Ventures also joined the round, and Wavemaker Partners co-founder Paul Santos joined DataMasque’s board.
Auckland-based DataMasque, founded in 2021, provides a data de-identification and synthetic data platform.
The company said the product helps enterprises find and de-identify sensitive data by masking it and generating synthetic datasets for AI training, testing, and analytics.
The company previously raised US$2.7 million in 2023 in a round led by OIF Ventures, with Icehouse Ventures also participating, making the latest round a follow-on investment.
DataMasque said its customers include New York Life, ADP, Best Western Hotels and Resorts, One NZ, TAL, and government agencies in New Zealand, Australia, and the US.
The company plans to expand in Singapore. The Monetary Authority of Singapore (MAS) proposed guidelines on AI risk management for financial institutions in 2025, including expectations for controls across the AI life cycle.
