Wavemaker Impact backs Muun AI in $700k pre-seed round
Wavemaker Impact, a Southeast Asia climate-tech venture build fund, said it has invested US$700,000 in a pre-seed round in Muun AI, a startup building software to analyze industrial machine data.
The companies said Muun AI’s system labels and contextualizes raw sensor data in real time and can work without historical data or pre-training.
In an ongoing proof of concept at a manufacturing facility in Singapore, Muun AI identified 2,800 to 4,200 hours of recoverable operational inefficiencies without changes to existing workflows, the companies said.

🧠 Food for thought
Implications, context, and why it matters.
This investment backs a sector tied to one-fifth of regional emissions
- Wavemaker Impact’s investment in Muun AI fits its focus on industry, which produces 20% of greenhouse gas emissions in Southeast Asia 1.
- The venture firm runs a “100×100” mandate. It aims to build companies that can abate 100 million metric tons of CO₂ and reach US$100 million in recurring revenue 2.
- Muun AI says it can uncover thousands of hours of recoverable operating waste. Cutting that waste can reduce emissions and lower costs, supporting Wavemaker Impact’s goal to reduce 10% of the global carbon budget by 2035 1.
The startup aims to lower hurdles for industrial AI
- Industrial AI often needs large datasets to train models. Some vendors use synthetic data (artificially generated training data, often created in computer simulations) to speed up training and deployment 3.
- Predictive maintenance (using data to anticipate equipment failures before they happen) can stall when machine failure data is scarce, which makes accurate models harder to train 4.
- Muun AI claims it can label and contextualize raw sensor data in real time. It also says it can analyze machine performance without historical data or pre-training, which could help factories without large, preexisting datasets.
- Broader use of these efficiency tools could help the “hard-to-abate” industrial sector (industries where emissions are difficult to eliminate with current technology). Wavemaker Impact says this space has received less attention, yet it is “just as important to tackle” 1.
