Volkswagen’s Scout shifts to hybrids with 500-mile range

Scout Motors, Volkswagen’s electrified SUV and pickup truck brand, is seeing increased reservations for its plug-in hybrid models over all-electric variants.

The Traveler SUV and Terra pickup, launching in 2027, will feature range-extended electric vehicle (EREV) systems, using gasoline engines to recharge batteries rather than directly powering the vehicles.

Scott Keogh, CEO of Scout Motors, highlighted consumer concerns like range anxiety and inadequate EV charging infrastructure as barriers to adoption.

The vehicles will be built at a US$2 billion factory in South Carolina, designed to support EREV production.
