Volkswagen, Horizon Robotics team up on AI driving in China
Volkswagen Group and Horizon Robotics, a Beijing-based autonomous driving technology company, said they would deepen AI model cooperation in China through CARIZON, the joint venture between Volkswagen software unit CARIAD and Horizon.
The partnership aims to build Volkswagen Group China’s unified AI driving solution.
Under the agreement, CARIZON will use a white-box licensing model to develop the system independently, combining Horizon’s AI foundation model with the C7H chip, which is still under development.
The statement also mentioned the GAIA world model data platform.
CARIZON was first announced in 2022 as part of a roughly 2.4-billion-euro tie-up.
It was established in late 2023 to localize and scale AI-powered advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS) for China.
The C7H is based on Horizon’s upcoming Journey 7 family and targets about 500–700 TOPS.
The cooperation also supports Volkswagen’s broader software push in China.
Deployment of Level 3 (L3) and Level 4 (L4) autonomous driving will still depend on regulation in China.
