Visa tests pre-funded stablecoins for cross-border payments

Visa is testing a pilot program allowing banks and remittance firms to use pre-funded stablecoins for cross-border payments.

The pilot, running on Visa Direct, uses dollar- and euro-backed stablecoins issued by Circle Internet Group.

Visa says this setup aims to speed up global money transfers and reduce the need for clients to hold large cash reserves in advance.

Traditionally, remittance providers must pre-fund accounts in each market, risking service delays if requests exceed available funds, especially outside business hours.

With real-time stablecoin transfers, Visa says clients can move funds instantly and avoid weekend or off-hours delays.
