Visa unveils stablecoin platform for banks, fintechs
Visa has unveiled a stablecoin platform for banks and fintechs to issue, transfer, and manage stablecoins across blockchains on one system.
The platform will initially support Open USD and a limited beta rollout.
Open USD will be issued by Open Standard, an industry consortium for stablecoin infrastructure.
The launch comes as stablecoin interest in the US rises after regulatory changes.
These includes the signed GENIUS Act on July 18, 2025, which created a federal framework for payment stablecoins. Banking agencies have also withdrawn guidance that had made some digital asset activities harder for banks.
Visa said its stablecoin settlement pilot now supports nine blockchains through a common settlement layer, including Avalanche, Ethereum, Solana, and Stellar.
The pilot builds the company’s USDC work that began in 2021 and later expanded to banks in the US and more than 130 programs in over 50 countries.
