Visa launches stablecoin pilot for faster global payments

Visa has announced it will launch a pilot program to test stablecoin prefunding for cross-border payments through its Visa Direct platform.

The new feature, announced on October 5, 2025 will allow select businesses, including banks, remitters, and financial institutions, to send stablecoins instead of fiat currency to fund international payouts.

Visa, a global payments company based in the US, said the pilot aims to speed up international money transfers and give businesses more flexibility in managing liquidity.

By using stablecoins, Visa said financial institutions may be able to reduce the need for holding large fiat reserves and potentially avoid local currency volatility.

The pilot will be available to selected partners, with plans to expand in 2026.
