Visa launches AI agent payments for businesses
Visa unveiled Intelligent Commerce Connect, offering businesses a single integration on its Visa Acceptance Platform to accept and process purchases made by AI agents.
The product supports payment initiation, tokenization, authentication, and spending controls.
Visa said it can handle transactions paid with Visa and non-Visa cards, to help businesses support AI-driven transactions as more consumers rely on digital assistants to make purchases.
The service is in pilot with partners including Aldar, AWS, Diddo, Highnote, Mesh, Payabli, and Sumvin, with a broader rollout planned later this year.

🧠 Food for thought
Implications, context, and why it matters.
Intelligent Commerce Connect fits Visa’s wider push into AI-led shopping and payments
- Intelligent Commerce Connect sits within Visa’s broader Intelligent Commerce offering for AI-powered shopping and payments, rather than standing alone 1.
- The system is built to be “network, protocol, and token vault-agnostic.” In practice, it can work across payment networks, technical standards, and token vaults, which are secure systems for storing card tokens 2.
- That setup gives businesses access to agent-led commerce through a shared gateway instead of a Visa-only product 2.
- The approach matches Visa’s work on payments for autonomous AI agents through card infrastructure, including efforts with Stripe and the Tempo Machine Payments Protocol (MPP), a framework for automated machine-led payments 3.
- It also leaves room to connect with other payment networks’ application programming interfaces (APIs), which could let AI agents pay with Visa and non-Visa cards where available 1.
Competition in commerce is moving toward AI agents
- Visa is preparing for checkouts where AI agents make purchases for consumers. Intelligent Commerce Connect is meant to help merchants and other businesses accept those transactions with security and scale 1.
- Comments around the launch cast the race as a fight to supply the underlying rails for agent-led commerce, instead of focusing only on consumer wallets 3.
- With infrastructure that works across systems, Visa is trying to stay in the transaction flow as shopping shifts toward AI-agent-led experiences.
